Landscape Committee

Landscape maintenance of our common area in the DeBary Plantation Community is the largest annual budget expenditure of the association.  It is the diligence of this committee to ensure that services meet expectations and resources are spent prudently.  There is over 53 acres of Association common property – this is the equivalent of 38 American football fields.

The committee's responsibilities include:

  • Making recommendations to the Board of Directors on landscaping improvements to the common areas.

  • Providing oversight and service recommendations to the Account Manager of the contracted landscape maintenance vendor.

  • Developing a consistent plant palette throughout the community.

  • Make annual flower selections for annual plant beds in the community.

  • Reviewing trees and plant beds throughout the community and making recommendations on upgrades or improvements to the Board of Directors.

  • Developing criteria for the landscape maintenance vendor contract, evaluating RFP responses, reviewing references, and conducting interviews with bidders at least every three years or as directed by the Board of Directors.

  • Selecting a Beautification Award winner each month from a list of candidates provided by the management company.

The committee is composed of eight homeowners, our Community Association Manager, the Landscape Maintenance Supervisor employed through our Association management company, and the account manager for the contracted landscape maintenance vendor. The committee meets monthly to review projects, discuss irrigation and maintenance activities, and plan for future landscape projects.

The Landscape Maintenance Supervisor reviews the property each week to ensure all areas are serviced, new plants are installed, and overall work quality is maintained. Twice a month, one committee member accompanies the Community Association Manager and the Account Manager to conduct an overall review of the property.
